Course Information
Description	Intended for Non STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors. Topics include introductory treatments of sets and logic, financial mathematics, probability and statistics with appropriate applications. Number sense, proportional reasoning, estimation, technology, and communication should be embedded throughout the course. Additional topics may be covered.
Prerequisites	MATH 0332 or TSI math score of 350 or higher.
Learning Outcomes	Upon successful completion of this course students will: 1. Apply the language of notation and sets. Determine the validity of an argument or statement and provide mathematical evidence. (PSLO 1,2, ALPHA) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, or homework as well as the pretest and post-test. 3. Solve problems in mathematics of finance. (PSLO 1,3, ALPHA) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, or homework as well as the pretest and post-test. 4. Demonstrate fundamental probability/counting techniques and apply those techniques to solve problems. (PSLO 1,3, ALPHA) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, or homework as well as the pretest and post-test 5. Interpret and analyze various representations of data. (PSLO 1,3, ALPHA) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, or homework as well as the pretest and post-test. 6. Demonstrate the ability to choose and analyze mathematical models to solve problems from real-world settings, including, but not limited to, personal finance, health literacy, and civic engagement. Grading Scale	DMTH 0132 is based on Pass (Satisfactory) or Fail (Unsatisfactory) DMTH 0132 In-class exercises will be graded on the scale of Pass (70-100) or Fail (Below 70)
Determination of Final Grade	Your DMTH 0132 final grade will consist of: -Attendance (see attendance policy) -Class Participation -Scheduled graded in-class exercises
Course Policies
Instructor Policies	Grades will only be discussed in person. Communication will be via email or voicemail and should include your name, specific math course, and short clear questions.
Attendance Policy	Attendance is required. 4 ABSENCES may result in course failure. Three of the following incidents will be equal to one absence: * Arriving to class late * Leaving class early * Sleeping in class * Refusing to participate in group work * Being on your cell phone
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
